The First Asian American Woman Has Just Been Appointed To Donald Trump’s Cabinet

Haley’s appointment, announced via a news release from the Republican Party, makes her the first woman and first Asian American appointed by Trump to a cabinet-level post, AsAm News reported.
Born of Indian immigrant parents, the Republican governor used to be a harsh critic of Trump but eventually changed her stance before the election, saying she would vote for him.
“Our country faces enormous challenges here at home and internationally, and I am honored that the President-elect has asked me to join his team and serve the country we love as the next Ambassador to the United Nations,” said Governor Haley.

Haley was praised for getting her state through last year’s tragedy in Charleston when a shooting left nine people dead at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church.
She then led bi-partisan calls for the removal of the Confederate flag from the State Capitol and its grounds.

“These grounds (the State Capital) are a place that everybody should feel a part of. What I realized now more than ever is people were driving by and felt hurt and pain. No one should feel pain,” Haley was quoted as saying“There is a place for that flag,” but she said “It’s not in a place that represents all people in South Carolina.”
Considered as a rising star in the Republican Party, Haley would succeed Pulitzer Prize-winning author Samantha Power, who has served as the U.S. envoy to the UN since 2013.

“Governor Haley has a proven track record of bringing people together regardless of background or party affiliation to move critical policies forward for the betterment of her state and our country,” said Trump. “She is also a proven dealmaker, and we look to be making plenty of deals. She will be a great leader representing us on the world stage.”
