According to RMC Sport (h/t Jack de Menezes of the Independent) Ozil is keen to see Draxler make the switch to the Emirates Stadium, and it’s an acquisition that could play a part in convincing the Arsenal man to sign a new deal at the club; Ozil has 18 months left to run on his current term.
As reported by Sport Witness, both Le Parisien and Bild have noted that Arsenal, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain want to sign Draxler. In the same report, according to RMC Sport, PSG have already opened talks with the player about a potential move.
With speculation building over Draxler’s future, it looks increasingly likely that he’ll be on his way out of the Bundesliga club by midseason. Here’s why so many illustrious names have been linked with him:During the summer, Draxler publicly expressed his desire to leave Wolfsburg in an interview with Bild (h/t Rory O’Callaghan of Sky Sports) although he ended up sticking around at the Volkswagen Arena beyond the transfer deadline.
However, he’s failed to find his best form and as noted by Sport Witness, it’s suggested both parties are now ready to go their separate ways. Former Norway international and Bundesliga pundit Jan AageFjortoft stated Arsenal are interested in the German and added the Gunners may never have a better chance to secure him:Although Arsenal aren’t in desperate need of a footballer like Draxlerdue to their wealth of attacking talent, manager Arsene Wenger may view this window as an ideal chance to bring in a potentially world-class talent.
After all, while Draxler hasn’t been at his best this season, the 23-year-old could become a major force if his turn of pace, dribbling skills and technical flair were all harnessed in the right way. Wenger has helped many players of a similar style with that process, and the German could give everyone at the club a huge boost if he was to join midseason.
According to Bild (h/t the Daily Telegraph) Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is still a transfer target for Arsenal.
It’s noted a January deal is unlikely to materialise, although the Gunners could potentially launch an audacious bid for the Gabonese goal getter at the end of the season.
Aubameyang has blossomed into one of the best centre-forwards in world football over the past couple of years. These numbers from Squawka Football sum up just how crucial he has been for a free-scoring Borussia Dortmund side this season:Alexis Sanchez has done a fine job up top for the Gunners, adding an incision and energy to the team. Behind him in the pecking order, Olivier Giroud is a brilliant option off the bench, while Lucas Perez has shown glimpses of star quality since his switch from Deportivo la Coruna in the summer.
Here is a look at how Arsenal’s star forward and Aubameyang compare in league matches so far this term:The Dortmund man would be an extremely costly acquisition for the Gunners. He’s currently in the peak years of his career and is so important to the vibrant attacking football played by Coach Thomas Tuchel’s BVB side.
Sanchez’s conversion to a central striker coupled with the acquisition of Perez means Arsenal aren’t in desperate need of replenishment in that position anymore. Aubameyang would be a world-class option, but it’s tough to see the Gunners parting with the kind of money that’d be needed to secure his signature.
