Car crash closes Burrard Street for 3 blocks in downtown Vancouver

An early morning car crash has shut down traffic on Burrard Street in both directions between Georgia Street and Robson Street in Vancouver.
The single car hit a lamp standard, which fell onto some active transit lines at the intersection of Burrard Street and Georgia Street.
The power lines ended up getting tangled with the active transit lines, prompting the large closure because of safety concerns.
"With the trolley lines they're dangerous because they're energized in both ways," said Captain Craig Lanthier with Vancouver Fire Rescue, who helped secure the road closure.
"We have it shut down for everybody's safety in the city right now."
Lanthier says it may not be until 6:30 a.m. PT before the City of Vancouver is able get a crew to the scene.
There were four people in the vehicle that struck the power pole, but no one was injured.
