Long sentences for Nigerian drug importers

Nelson Chidi Igwe, 26, was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment, while Adekunle Adeoye, 24, and Chidielere, 28, each received 13 year sentences. State prosecutor Thanasis Papanicolaou charged the three with importing and possessing with intent to supply 10.38 kilos of the drug, offences to which they all pleaded guilty in November. The drug squad Ykan, in cooperation with customs officers stopped and searched the trio on their arrival at Larnaca airport from Dubai, at around midnight on May 8. Upon searching the men, who had entered Cyprus as students, all were found to be in possession of a large number of small, egg-shaped packets, made to look like chocolates but containing cocaine, in nylon duty free bags. One of the men also had the drugs sewn into his jacket.
