Everton striker Romelu Lukaku is set to become the club’s highest ever paid player with a new deal at the club imminent, the Liverpool Echo reports.
The new contract is set to make Lukaku the highest paid player in Everton history. It is believed the Belgian will earn more than £100,000 per week.
Lukaku’s current deal does not expire until 2019, inked when he signed from Chelsea in 2014.But it is hoped the new and improved wage packet will keep Lukaku at Goodison Park for at least another year, and will ensure Everton net at least £80 million for his services if a suitor does come calling in the foreseeable future.
The news will come as some short-term solace for Everton fans after the club was beaten 1-0 by city rivals Liverpool in Monday night’s Merseyside Derby.
Since making the move from Stamford Bridge to the Merseyside club, Lukaku 37 goals in 89 appearances, on top of the 15 he netted while at the club on loan from 2013 through 2014.
