Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney was offered to Napoli in the summer because of his bad relationship with Jose Mourinho, according to a former FIFA agent.
Rooney has found it difficult since Mourinho's arrival at Old Trafford and has just three goals to his name in 25 appearances this season.
And Vincenzo Morabito, who used to look after former Arsenal midfielder Emmnanuel Petit, believes United tried to offload the England international before the transfer window shut on August 31.
'I know for a fact that he was offered to Napoli as he can't go to other English clubs, which could lead him to Spain and Italy,' Morabito told Italian radio station CRC.
'He was, I repeat, offered to Napoli. While the idea is beautiful, when you look at his €10 million (£8.3m) - a year salary, it isn't realistic.'
Morabito insists, however, that Rooney is no longer needed at United.

He certainly doesn't have a good relationship with Mourinho, and therefore his future is far from United, even on loan, to give them more room,' he adds.
The 31-year-old, who is just one goal behind Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time scoring record of 249 at United, was in the starting line-up on Wednesday for the first time since early last month.
