Missouri teen pleads guilty to killing 12-year-old sister

JASPER, Mo. -- A Missouri teenager is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to fatally shooting his 12-year-old sister.
The Joplin Globe reports that 15-year-old pleaded guilty Friday to second-degree murder, armed criminal action and attempted first-degree arson. The boy was previously was certified to stand trial as an adult.
He was 13 in October 2015 when he fatally shot his sister outside their home near Jasper. The prosecutor said the brother and sister had been adopted out of foster care.
The judge ordered him to be evaluated for possible placement in a program that would provide him treatment and training until he turns 21. People assigned to the program can be transferred to an adult prison after they turn 21 if the court determines they should remain in custody.
