Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has stated that he believes in-form midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be back in action for the Premier League club by Boxing Day.
The former Borussia Dortmund playmaker has shown glimpses of his sublime ability in recent weeks and scored the winning goal as the Red Devils defeated Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
However, Mkhitaryan left Old Trafford on a stretcher after picking up an ankle injury following a challenge from Spurs left-back Danny Rose.
Fears among the United fans were that the Armenia international would face a significant spell on the sidelines.
But, Mourihno has stated that Mkhitaryan will most likely be unavailable for games against Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion – but he could return for the clash with Sunderland on December 26.
“It looks like next match no but it looks like it is nothing dangerous or needing surgery, so hopefully we will have Micki [on] Boxing Day,†the United boss is quoted as saying by The Guardian.
Mkhitaryan was signed at sizeable expense from Dortmund over the summer but has not been given a consistent chance to show what he is capable of at Old Trafford as yet.
However, strong performances in recent weeks suggest the star could well be an important man in United achieving their objectives this season.
