Kanye West News Updates: Fact Vs. Fiction, Part 2

Kanye West continues to be the subject of unfounded rumors in the wake of his hospitalization and meeting with Donald Trump. A number of stories, related to both his career and his personal life, have been printed by disreputable outlets looking to capitalize on his highs and lows. Gossip Cop previously separated fact from fiction on West last month. Now we can do it again.
FICTION: Kanye West is designing Melania Trump’s inauguration dress, according to HollywoodLife.
FACT: HollwoodLies, as it’s known, alleged West was secretly working on potential outfits for the future First Lady prior to his hospitalization. The designer was supposedly already drawing sketches and pulling fabrics for possible dresses. Gossip Cop was told there was “no truth” to the claim.
FICTION: Kanye West’s hospitalization was an insurance scam, according to the New York Post.
FACT: The newspaper speculated that West was only hospitalized to get an insurance pay-out for canceling his “Saint Pablo Tour,” and further accused the rapper of checking into the hospital to “clean up his brand.” A rep for the rapper was dismissive of the report, telling Gossip Cop the allegations were “ridiculous.”
FICTION: “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” stopped filming when Kanye West was hospitalized, according to TMZ.
FACT: The generally-reliable site said the reality show was “shut down,” and unlikely to film anything in December. An E! spokesperson, however, said in a statement, “‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ is currently in production and has not been halted.”
FICTION: Kim Kardashian was “plotting” to leave Kanye West before his hospitalization, according to In Touch.
FACT: In a cover story insensitively called “Trapped With A Madman,” it was said Kardashian intended to “walk away” from her marriage, but West’s breakdown forced her to “put those plans on hold.” The tabloid even had the gall to publish a photo on its cover that was implied to be West with paramedics mid-meltdown, but the picture was not authentic. Neither was the article, which was filled with falsehoods.
FICTION: Kanye West was hospitalized because he was abusing drugs and alcohol, according to the National Enquirer.
FACT: The supermarket tabloid claimed the performer had a “lethal addiction” to “cocaine and booze,” and would go on “drug binges.” A rep for West exclusively told Gossip Cop that he has “never been a drug user,” and the story’s misinformation was “ridiculous.”
FICTION: Kim Kardashian wants a divorce from Kanye West, according to Us Weekly.
FACT: “Kim Wants Out,” declared a headline in the magazine, which asserted that Kardashian was not only “distancing herself” from her husband, but also trying to “build a case for full custody” of their children. But the story was largely inaccurate, and more than a week later, Kardashian has not filed for divorce, just as Gossip Cop was told she wouldn’t.
FICTION: Kim Kardashian is talking to divorce lawyers, according to In Touch.
FACT: After first claiming Kardashian was “trapped” and unable to divorce West (see above), the tabloid then flip-flopped, saying she was meeting with attorney Laura Wasser to start the proceedings. Gossip Cop was told the allegation was “false.” And it’s worth noting the publication has told such a lie more than once since the couple tied the knot in 2014.
FICTION: Kanye West wants to do his “comeback performance” at the Grammys, according to HollywoodLife.
FACT: The webloid purported to have “exclusive details” on the rapper’s intention to get a “spot on the Grammy stage” to show off a new song. West’s own rep, though, told Gossip Cop the story was 100 percent untrue. HollywoodLies seemingly made the whole thing up.
FICTION: Kanye West is resuming the “Saint Pablo Tour” in January, according to X17Online.
FACT: The paparazzi outlet published a story filled with inaccuracies, such as claiming West had been in rehab, and was now focused on returning to the stage. Lemmings like HollywoodLife regurgitated the article without bothering to fact-check it first. But West’s spokesperson confirmed to Gossip Cop that there was no plan for the “Saint Pablo Tour” to start back up again next month.
FICTION: Kanye West is writing a song to perform at Donald Trump’s inauguration, according to MediaTakeOut.
FACT: According to the blog’s tall tale, West created a “Trump anthem” and wanted to perform it at the swearing-in ceremony. It was even asserted that that was the purpose of their meeting. Yet, not only did West’s rep tells Gossip Cop that the story was “B.S.,” but the star himself has revealed that the real topic of their sit-down was multicultural issues.
FICTION: Kanye West is performing at Donald Trump’s inauguration, according to HollywoodLife.
FACT: Like MediaFakeOut, HollywoodLies also saw fit to speculate about the nature of the meeting. In this case, the site wondered if West was “offering to perform for the president-elect,” particularly because the “Trump family are huge Kanye fans.” Again, that was not the reason for their chat, and an inauguration performance never camp up during the 15-minute conversation.
FICTION: Kris Jenner is telling Kim Kardashian to divorce Kanye West, according to Star.
FACT: It was alleged that the Kardashian-Jenner matriarch had a “heart to heart” with her daughter while West was hospitalized, urging her to “dump” her husband. Gossip Cop was point-blank told the claim was “false.” The tabloid previously ran a suspiciously similar story back in February, and apparently thought it could get away with peddling its false allegation again, even though Gossip Cop and time proved it wrong the first time.
FICTION: Kris Jenner is using Corey Gamble to spy on Kanye West, according to RadarOnline.
FACT: The webloid asserted Jenner had her boyfriend “keeping tabs” and “shadowing Kanye 24/7.” Of course, the story was borne out of Gamble being among the guys who accompanied West to Trump Tower. But it wasn’t because he was playing babysitter. In addition to being one of West’s close friends, Gamble also works for Scooter Braun, one of West’s managers, making it completely logical that he would be spending time with West and accompanying him to meetings.
FICTION: Kanye West’s meeting with Donald Trump was filmed, according to HollywoodLife.
FACT: The webloid claimed West had a “camera crew” and “taped his 15-minute meeting with the president-elect.” But buried in the article was an on-the-record denial from a rep for Trump, who said there were “no cameras in the meeting.” In other words, HollywoodLies knowingly crafted fake news, and chose to highlight its fabrication instead of the truth.
FICTION: Kim Kardashian is banning Kanye West from Christmas celebrations, according to Celeb Dirty Laundry.
FACT: The site said Kardashian hoped prohibiting West from spending the holiday with the family would force him to “shape up or ship out,” and didn’t want his “erratic moods” to “ruin” Christmas. Naturally, CDL didn’t have any sources (even fake ones) to back up its contentions. And on the contrary, as of now, the couple is indeed planning to celebrate together.
Gossip Cop understands the competitive nature between outlets, and the desire for publications to appear like they have exclusive insight. But that does not ever excuse manufacturing fake news. And West’s decision to live parts of his life in the spotlight does not mean he should be exploited with stories rooted in fiction. Gossip Cop will keep sharing the facts and exposing the false rumors.
