Everton have made an approach to Roma about the availability of Kostas Manolas.
According to Sky Sports Ronald Koeman is lining up a move for the Greek international defender as hopes fade over signing Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.
Manolas was recently linked with Manchester United but with the deal to sign Victor Lindelof finally getting closer their interest in the Roma defender has cooled.
Koeman has been given funds to back his ambitions to get Everton back into Europe but is having difficulty convincing signing targets that they can compete at the top of the table.
Signing Manolas from Roma would be a clear sign that the club mean business with the defender respected across Serie A and also in international football.
It would take around £35m to land the 25-year-old but bidding for van Dijk is likely to start at £50m.
Manolas is in his third season with Roma and has won 27 international caps.
